Colors of February - late Michigan

Sue has been doing a project of colors of the month.  Hers are here. If you scroll down to the end of her post, there are links to February colors in a variety of places.
These are fresh from this morning:

Who's in the tree?

Mmmmm!  Frozen berries!

Singing in the snow:

In case you can't tell, more snow this morning.....big, fluffy flakes.

Got Snow?

From my kitchen window:

I don't think the birds are any happier than I am about this snow (or that I haven't trekked out to fill that bird feeder). The video below is primarily for the audio:

So surreal to walk outside to 8" of snow and hear that kind of bird chatter.

And I thought I was in a slump...

Mostly knitting and harbingers of spring...

Harbingers of spring first:  There are now a band of robins hanging around our lot.  Presumably they are after the berries that remain on the ornamental trees and the brush in the woods.  They hang together in a group and this time of year, they always remind me of the street gangs in West Side Story. Their songs are much appreciated right now.  The chickadees have also begun their spring song, even though there is snow on the ground and another inch arrived this morning.

So it was a pleasant surprise when I was getting into the car for some errands to hear the faint trill of spring peepers.  I stopped moving and listened to be sure that's what it was.....then I realized it was coming from my purse.

I particularly dislike the sound of most ring tones, especially when it's someone who forgot to turn off their phone in a place where the interruption of their electronic device is rude (like church, or yoga class).  Yet I am just as capable of forgetting to turn off all sounds on the phone as the next person.  My solution: pick an environmental ring tone that wouldn't stand out too much before I could get it turned off.  You guessed it, my ring tone is spring peepers.  And I missed the call that my new glasses are ready.  Duh.  We rarely have spring peepers before March, and rarely at 1:00 PM.

There are some new toe up socks to show:

These are knit using the same architecture as the previous socks. The stitch pattern is a 2x2 rib which jumps to the left one stitch every 4th row, hence the spiral look to the rib. They fit really well and do not twist around on the foot. The yarn is from the stash and about 20 years old, so no point in naming the yarn and color way since it's no longer available.

There is also some mystery knitting:

Details on these to be revealed at a later date.
