So it's not hormones after all?

The Guest House
Being human is like a guest house.
Each morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness
comes as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!

Even if they're a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still treat each guest honorably.

He may be clearing you out for
some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame,
the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

  2. How true!

    Thanks for that...

Best advice I ever had was "laugh when you are happy, cry when you are sad"

  4. this is so, so true. i've been making a conscious effort to accept and embrace each and every emotion or situation that comes through my door. and you know what? the uninvited guests tend to leave early when they're welcome and the good guests often decide to extend their vacation.

  5. Invite them in - hmmmm. I haven't done that, haven't felt like doing that. And certainly not while laughing. Maybe the laughing part is the deal - hmmmm.
