I love this....

I take this as evidence that Bobby McFerrin understands the science and magic of earworms

World Science Festival 2009: Bobby McFerrin Demonstrates the Power of the Pentatonic Scale from World Science Festival on Vimeo.

We should be extremely grateful that he has not exercised this power over us since Don't Worry Be Happy
(yeah, you can thank me for planting that earworm for the weekend.)

  1. I'd like to find more information about earworm songs and things that they are associated with.

ie: I always associate "Don't Worry" with Ground Hogs Day.

  2. McFerrin is such a remarkable vocalist and teacher, it's kind of a shame he most known for "Don't Worry".

Radiolab, which is played sometimes on Michigan Radio, had a show last year about earworms:
I remember it being entertaining and quite informative.

  3. This was a joy to listen to. I hadn't encountered the word "earworm" before. Gotta get one of McFerrin's cds now.

tie in the loose ends...
